Part of the Education Amendments of 1972, Title IX is an important law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or educational program that receives federal funding. Because of this rule, women’s sports in the United States are meant to receive equal monetary funding to men’s athletic programs. Though there are still problems with funding equity, Title IX greatly narrowed the gap. When you see American women dominating in international competitions, Title IX is a big reason why. As Title IX turns 50 this June, Boathouse Sports wanted to do something special to commemorate this milestone, while also empowering female athletes of the future.
